Swati weds Philip
Kanakavalli Bride Swati first met Philip at a Student Union Chinese Food Festival in Manchester, where they had both moved to study. She accidentally dropped some food, so he offered her some of his… and promptly dropped his food on the floor too!
She knew then that if they continued to see each other, there was a good chance they would end up married.
Swati’s parents were so excited when she told them about Philip that they picked a wedding date before there was a proposal.
But Philip made sure to plan something special. When Swati was visiting him in the UK, he surprised her with a big bag of presents. At the very bottom of the bag was a stunning engagement ring, and he popped the question.
The couple had a beautiful South Indian ceremony that was both traditional and colourful. Swati says the most memorable moment was watching Philip in the Baraat. She was so excited and longed to join him as he danced towards her. They also enjoyed every moment taking photos together, sharing little jokes to make each other laugh and pose more naturally.
Life after the wedding has been seamless, Swati says. They both lived independently for a long time, so bringing their lives together has been an exciting experience – discovering what they are like as a unit and, in the process, rediscovering their relationship.
In 2017, Swati’s sister bought her muhurtham sari at Kanakavalli. Swati remembers thinking that she would like to one day have a Kanakavalli sari too. The moment they had a date for the wedding, she was on the Kanakavalli website looking for the perfect kanjivaram.
Swati says that she can be very indecisive and she struggled to pick just two saris when she visited the Kanakavalli store. The team, however, was patient and attentive, insisting she try on every sari before making her choice. Swati finally settled on two gorgeous kanjivarams.
