Nikita weds Vidur
Nikita and Vidur were introduced by a common friend and went on their first date for the sake of formality, but by the end of it, she couldn’t wait to meet him again.
Vidur took Nikita on a weekend getaway to a resort at Watamu, Kenya, that she had been dying to go to. She knew he was going to propose, but he kept her on her toes all weekend. She wore heels on the flight and had make-up on all through the trip, just in case! One evening, Vidur organised a gorgeous sundowner with champagne and a beautiful pink sunset. She was sure he’d pop the question… but he didn’t.
When they returned to their room, it was filled with flowers and candles and he proposed there, on the patio, under the stars. Nikita says that neither of them is a romantic, but the proposal was straight out of a Shahrukh Khan movie!
Knowing that they wanted to enjoy the big day while letting go of the little details, Nikita and Vidur handed over wedding planning to their families. They had just three non-negotiables.
They wanted to create a bubble of close friends and family who would be a part of the wedding and not just sets of eyes watching it unfold. The wedding had to be fun for everyone and nobody was allowed to get stressed.
And all three of their cultures had to be integrated into the celebrations – Punjabi, Bengali and Parsi. In fact, ‘A Marriage of Three Cultures’ became the theme for their wedding.
Nikita’s maternal grandmother had worn a red and gold wedding sari, and that’s what Nikita wanted to wear for her big day.
Since they were planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic, though, she bought all her outfits online. Three months before the wedding, she happened to be in Bangalore on work and walked into the Kanakavalli store. She tried on a red and gold sari, just for fun, and immediately knew it had to be her bridal outfit. It was exactly what she had envisioned.
For Nikita, the best part of shopping at Kanakavalli was that the team was not pushy. They were quick to understand what she was looking for and didn’t confuse her with dozens of choices. She felt heard and given the space to reach her own decision.
A big thank you to Nikita for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Vidur a lifetime of love and laughter.
