Kanakavalli Bride : Sucharita

Sucharita weds Nishad

Kanakavalli Bride Sucharita says it was serendipity that brought her and Nishad together. They had mutual friends through college but somehow never crossed paths until after graduation. They finally met at a mutual friend’s housewarming – where they both knew everyone except each other! Soon after, she added him on Facebook, and two weeks later he messaged her. They spent months chatting and becoming friends before going on their first date – and the rest, as they say, is history.

A week after Sucharita completed her MBA, Nishad convinced her to go out to dinner on a Sunday night. They headed to one of their favourite beaches in Los Angeles to watch a SpaceX Falcon launch. As the sun dipped below the horizon, he proposed to her at the end of a pier they loved to walk along together.

The couple had a traditional wedding ceremony that beautifully blended Telugu and Maharashtrian rituals, honouring both families’ traditions. They incorporated live music for the Mangalya Dharana and Varmala rituals and created programmes explaining each ceremony for their non-Indian guests. Their mandap bloomed in sunset hues and lush foliage, perfectly complementing their pastel theme. Sucharita and her parents wore shades of pink and white, while Nishad and his family dressed in tones of blue and green.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the food and cake that the couple meticulously planned. They wanted their menu to reflect their personal tastes and cultural roots – introducing their guests to the diversity of Indian cuisine beyond naan and butter chicken! The wedding cake combined their favourite flavours of lemon, raspberry, and chocolate, and even their favours were food-inspired – pastries from one of their favourite Asian bakeries in Los Angeles.

For Sucharita, one of the most memorable moments of the day was when Nishad serenaded her with Ajab Si, a song she has loved since childhood. The lyrics are beautiful, she says, and she could tell he sang straight from his heart.

On a trip to Hyderabad to shop for her wedding sari, Sucharita visited several stores before her cousin recommended Kanakavalli. The moment she and her parents stepped into the Jubilee Hills store, they knew why. She found an exquisite coral pink kanjivaram that she instantly fell in love with. Wanting to gift her mother – her inspiration and role model – something special for the wedding, Sucharita persuaded her to choose a beautiful magenta kanjivaram. For Sucharita, the best part of her shopping experience at Kanakavalli was the patience and warmth of the team, who took the time to share their knowledge and show them a wide variety of saris.

A big thank you to Sucharita for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Nishad a lifetime of love and laughter.
