Smirthi weds Aalap
Kanakavalli Bride Smirthi says that after her first date with Aalap, she just knew that she was going to marry him. They first connected over social media as he was a fan of her family’s dance account on Instagram. They first met at the Washington Monument and went out for dinner, bonding over family, friends and dance. She remembers that they made each other laugh a lot that night.
In 2022, Aalap proposed to Smirthi at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC, during Hurricane Ian. It had rained all day, and Aalap took her to a corner that was decorated with rose petals, where he popped the question. As soon as Smirthi said yes, her friends and family appeared to surprise her.
Since Aalap was busy with medical school, Smirthi planned the wedding with her mum, giving them an opportunity to spend time together. They worked as a team, bringing her vision to life. Smirthi wanted the wedding to be traditional and classic. They had a colourful sangeet, an elegant wedding ceremony and a glitzy reception. For the ceremony, she chose shades of white, cream and ivory with touches of gold. The décor consisted of fresh white flowers and red roses – a timeless combination.
The highlight of the wedding for Smirthi and Aalap was celebrating and dancing with their friends and family. They both love to dance and have friends who love to dance too, so they danced the night away at their Sangeet and reception.
Friends and family recommended Kanakavalli to Smirthi, who wanted a timeless bridal kanjivaram. She wasn’t able to travel to India, so her parents visited Kanakavalli in Coimbatore and Smirthi would shop with them via FaceTime. She was very particular about the shade of red she wanted, but it was hard to see the colour on video chat.
The Kanakavalli team was so accommodating, Smirthi says, taking each sari into the sunlight outdoors, sending her images and videos. She finally found the perfect sari in the exact hue she had been looking for. In the process, her parents fell in love with the brand and both wore Kanakavalli to the wedding too!
A big thank you to Smirthi for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Aalap a lifetime of love and laughter.
