Kanakavalli Bride : Anoji

Anoji weds Sid

Kanakavalli Bride Anoji was a sceptic about love at first sight, but that changed when she met Sid at a party in 2016, while she was in her third year of medical school. He came up to her with the classic, “You look familiar,” and she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Thirty minutes later, however, Anoji was hooked. Who knew cheesy lines still work?

Being the planner in the relationship, Anoji didn’t expect Sid to be able to pull off a spectacular surprise – but he did! He orchestrated a dreamy proposal under the guise of attending a friend’s wedding at a resort in Wolgan Valley. She was expecting a nice weekend away but instead got the proposal of a lifetime.
The couple had four main events – a sunset-themed Sangeet, a mehendi with a bespoke gelato cart and dosa stall, a Tamil-style wedding ceremony and a black-tie reception. The wedding ceremony was held at Curzon Hall, a sandstone castle in Sydney, decorated in shades of cream, white and gold with touches of greenery.
For Anoji, the oonjal ceremony, held in a pastel-hued gazebo under the sky, was magical. Walking up the aisle to sit next to Sid, with the sun shining above them, and their closest friends and family around them on the beautiful lawns felt like a dream and was a moment of pure joy they will cherish forever.
Married life is like living with your best friend in a never-ending slumber party, says Anoji. They love cooking together (Anoji humours Sid, who thinks he’s the better chef) and going for long runs by the harbour (where she has to struggle to keep up). For Anoji and Sid, every day feels like a new adventure.

Anoji always knew she wanted to be a Kanakavalli bride, having loved the timeless designs for years. The hardest part, she said, was choosing just one kanjivaram for her wedding from the extensive range. However, she says the Kanakavalli team was helpful and supportive from day one.

Anoji first had a few consultations with the Kanakavalli team via Whatsapp and once she had a better idea of what she wanted, her parents flew to Chennai to visit the store. With Anoji on a video call, unable to choose between a turquoise and sea green kanjivaram, the staff patiently showed the family options. Finally, on their third visit to the store, Anoji picked ‘the one’.

A big thank you to Anoji for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the store of her wedding with us. We wish her and Sid a lifetime of love and laughter.
