Kanakavalli Bride : Neha

Fast forward to a sunny April day in 2023, when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and Vinay proposed to Neha at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This was a special spot for them as it was where they spent their third date. 

After dinner, Vinay took Neha to a bar where 20 close friends had flown in to surprise them. The next day, her aunt and uncle hosted a brunch that kicked off a year of celebrations.

Neha loves to plan parties and create beautiful spaces, so she enjoyed all the design aspects of the wedding. Each event had a different vibe, and for the ceremony her vision was bright, beautiful and traditional colours against the green backdrop of trees at their forest-like venue. 

The mandap looked organic, overgrown with flowers and garlands, featuring bells and chimes like those in South Indian temples.

Neha requested the women to wear brightly-coloured saris and the men to wear veshtis, and incorporated as many Tamil traditions as she could.

Some of the most memorable moments from the wedding were the unplanned ones, says Neha.

The night before the ceremony, her brother and cousins landed up in her room at midnight for an impromptu pyjama party. At the after-party, they all ate pizza and stayed up till 4am. Neha says there is nothing like having all your friends and family from around the world in one place!

Many friends had recommended Kanakavalli to Neha and she loved the experience when she visited the Kingsley store. She wanted a look that was simple and traditional, and she knew she wanted to wear pink. Neha eventually picked the first kanjivaram she had spotted at the store, and will always remember how special her shopping experience was.
