Kanakavalli Bride : Mathuvanthi

Mathuvanthi weds Anussan
Kanakavalli Bride Mathuvanthi first met Anussan in 2016 at a university student society. At first, they constantly argued, always challenging each other and never imagining they’d end up together. Over time, though, the debates turned into conversations and their rivalry grew into a real friendship. That friendship eventually blossomed into love. They went from sparring partners to soulmates, and are now husband and wife – and Mathuvanthi wouldn’t have it any other way!

Planning their wedding from 15,500 km away with a 14-hour time difference made it quite a challenge. As a couple, Mathuvanthi and Anussan value simplicity and tradition, so they wanted to keep things intimate – even with a guest list of over 600! Despite the whirlwind of planning, the excitement kept them going and they remained grateful for each other, and the unwavering support of their loved ones through the journey.

From vibrant marigolds draped across Mathuvanthi’s aunt’s garden for the henna night to the lingering scent of jasmine that filled their wedding venue, ceremony and tradition lay at the heart of their celebration. Amidst the beautiful chaos of the wedding day, Mathuvanthi felt an overwhelming sense of joy knowing she was marrying her best friend.
One of the most unforgettable moments for her was walking down the aisle to the sound of her own voice singing ‘Kanda Naal Mudhalai’ a song that’s always been special to her, and not just because it is in raagam Mathuvanthi. She felt as though she was walking through a dream she’d once imagined – it was emotional, grounding and magical all at once.

Married life so far has been filled with laughter and a new kind of joy, says Mathuvanthi. While learning to share a life with someone takes patience and growth, it all feels lighter and more worth it when that someone is your best friend, she adds!

Choosing her saris was one of the most meaningful parts of wedding planning for Mathuvanthi. She says Kanakavalli is a name that’s been cherished by her family, so making the trip to Chennai felt like a rite of passage. When she stepped into the Kingsley store, Mathuvanthi knew she was in the right place. She found her saris almost instantly and felt as though they had been waiting for her! The team seemed to understand her vision almost effortlessly and never asked her to compromise on what she wanted. Mathuvanthi says that she believes her Kanakavalli kanjivarams stood out on her wedding day, not just for their beauty, but for the story and heritage they carry. And this made her feel proud, and truly special as a bride.

A big thank you to Mathuvanthi for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Anussan a lifetime of love and laughter.
