Kanakavalli Bride : Sunanda

Sunanda weds Akash
Kanakavalli Bride Sunanda and Akash’s paths first crossed when they were at the same college in Pune for their Masters courses. From collegemates to friends, their relationship soon grew into something more meaningful, and they have been together ever since. Both believe that love is born out of getting to know each other really well, and falling for each other’s personalities.

Ever since Sunanda and Akash first fell in love, there was an unspoken understanding that they would be together forever, so there was never a need for a formal proposal. Their relationship always felt right, and grew very organically. Sunanda says that Akash is just the best person in her life, and she is grateful that they get to spend every day together.

Staying true to their personalities, Sunanda and Akash wanted to have a simple and intimate wedding – a ceremony and a cocktail party. Their muhurtham stayed true to tradition, while every ritual had a personal touch that reflected the couple. Their mandap was decorated in fresh and fragrant florals: strings of jasmines, orange marigolds, red roses and tuberoses.

During the Oonjal ceremony, Sunanda’s sister, a professional singer, sang for the couple, in a moment that was filled with emotion and meaning for the entire family. Sunanda says the exchange of the garlands was very special for her too, marking the moment that she and Akash became husband and wife.

Another highlight from the wedding was the Kasi Yatra. They had a life-sized train set-up that Akash “boarded” as though he was leaving Chennai for Kasi!

Sunanda, her mum and her sister have always loved Kanakavalli saris – even if they’re window shopping at the store. So, they were always sure that her bridal trousseau would be from Kanakavalli. Sunanda had a vision of exactly what she wanted to wear for her special day – the colour and design of the kanjivaram, as well as how her bridal look would come together. Visiting Kanakavalli with her mother and sister to shop for her wedding was a stand-out experience for Sunanda. All three of them thoroughly enjoyed trying on different saris and admiring their beauty. Sunanda says that Kanakavalli’s kanjivarams flow beautifully and their quality is unmatched. In fact, she adds, she would love to have another special event to attend just so she can wear her wedding saris again!

A big thank you to Sunanda for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Akash a lifetime of love and laughter.
