Kanakavalli Bride : Shrishti

Shrishti weds Jack
The first time Kanakavalli Bride Shrishti met Jack, they were in high school and he let the entire class know that she had just got braces! While their friendship didn’t have the perfect start, they ended up sitting next to each other often, given that both their last names start with the letter K. Six years later, Jack famously got himself out of the friend zone!

On Shrishti and Jack’s ten year dating anniversary, they were travelling in New Zealand’s South Island. While on a three-day hike, on which they had unseasonal snow fall, Jack proposed. He picked a scenic location, in front of a beautiful lake with snow-capped mountains in the background, and Shrishti says it was truly memorable.

Shrishti and Jack wanted their wedding to reflect them as a couple while honouring their backgrounds and traditions – an Indian-Australian fusion celebration. Everything from the food and mandap design to the florals and outfits reflected this perfect blend of cultures and customs. Leaning into an autumnal colour palette of peach, white and greens, they picked Australian native flowers as well as Indian marigolds: a beautiful meeting of East and West.

They had a Hindu ceremony that led into a Western-style reception, and a first dance that led into a Sangeet-style dance-off between the bride’s and groom’s friends. Shrishti said that dancing under the stars and fairy lights with her husband and their loved ones after the ceremony was a truly unforgettable moment.

Shrishti had never bought or worn a sari before and felt very out of her depth when she reached Chennai to shop for her trousseau. She knew she wanted to wear a traditional kanjivaram, but had no idea where to start. After visiting nearly every sari store in Chennai and Bangalore, she began to worry that she wouldn’t find the right sari. That concern disappeared when she visited Kanakavalli at Kingsley, she said.

From the minute she entered the store, she felt a sense of ease and comfort that she hadn’t experienced in her bridal shopping thus far. She felt the team’s attention and kindness as they patiently listened to what she wanted and helped her look for ‘the one’. Shrishti says she appreciated how invested the team was in helping her find the perfect sari for her special day, rather than convincing her to buy any sari. She also loved the way in which they handed over the kanjivaram, making it a special moment for her and her family.

A big thank you to Shrishti for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Jack a lifetime of love and laughter.
