Kanakavalli Bride : Meghna

Meghna weds Ram

Kanakavalli Bride Meghna first met Ram in Chennai in 2015 through a mutual friend. Nothing much came of that first meeting, but through social media she knew he had moved to the US for his master’s. Seven years later, when Meghna was back in Chennai for a medical conference after her postgrad, Ram “slid into her DMs,” as she puts it with a laugh. What followed took her by surprise –  they hit it off instantly, talking endlessly and finding connection in every conversation. Before long, Ram was visiting her in Bangalore, and there was no looking back.

Meghna says the two of them couldn’t be more different – he’s from Tamil Nadu while she has Kannada-Tulu roots; she’s a doctor, he’s an engineer; he’s an introvert who loves adventure and fitness, while she’s a people person who adores cafés, book clubs, and museums. Yet, what brought them together was their shared values and the ease with which they embraced each other’s families and cultures. After spending New Year’s Eve together, they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives that way.

Meghna’s mother – who she describes as meticulous and with impeccable taste –took the lead on most of the wedding planning, checking in with the bride for her inputs along the way. Meghna had a vision, but chose to enjoy the process rather than stress over details – all she truly wanted was to have everyone she loved around her on her big day.

The celebrations began with a traditional Bunt muhurtha, where the women and elders of the family came together to bless the bride-to-be. Meghna wore a beautiful mango yellow Kanakavalli kanjivaram for this occasion. This was followed by a lively sangeet filled with laughter and sweet performances by family and friends. The wedding itself was a two-state celebration, weaving together simple, meaningful rituals from both their cultures. For Meghna, the most cherished moment was seeing pure love and delight on the faces of their families as the knot was tied.

As they count down to their first anniversary, Meghna looks back on an eventful year. Ram has already had to move cities for her twice because of her work. It’s been challenging, says Meghna, but having a steadfast partner and best friend by her side, makes everything feel infinitely better.

“There was never any doubt that I would be a Kanakavalli Bride,” says Meghna. Both she and her mother have long been patrons of the brand, choosing Kanakavalli kanjivarams for special occasions. They love the palettes, the craftsmanship, and the luxurious feel of the silk. Meghna didn’t want the traditional red bridal kanjivaram – she envisioned something in off-white and gold to match the wedding theme. After hours of browsing online, she walked into the Bangalore store with a few options in mind, only to fall in love with a breathtaking kanjivaram she hadn’t seen before. She’s always been a quick shopper, but she did not expect to buy her wedding kanjivaram in under an hour!

A big thank you to Meghna for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Ram a lifetime of love and laughter.
