Our Pick This Month
BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : November Edition
Kanakavalli's November pick for The Beautiful Drape is a simple yet stunning kanjivaram that celebrates the craft's traditional ornamentation. Woven in a single shot tone, the sari is embellished in silver zari with a highlight in gold zari that adds drama and detail. The body of the kanjivaram is dotted with delicate geometric buttas in silver zari. The borders feature classic motifs and patterns, including pearl-like muthu seer lines, alai vanki, in which the armlet-inspired design is layered in waves, and vanki manga, or paisleys woven with chevron detailing, all in silver zari. The pallu of the sari is embellished with adukku moggu (layers of flower bud motifs), seer benaras lines, bangle-shaped valayal patterns, rows of vanki manga and valayal rudraksham, which combines bangle designs with the rudraksham bead motif, all in silver zari. A seeprekku band (a form resembling the teeth of a comb) is woven in rich silver tissue along the centre of the pallu, creating a striking depth. The subtle interplay of colour and zari creates a delightful visual effect, at once dramatic and elegant. Available in multiple colour-ways, this kanjivaram features zari with 0.3% gold and 26% silver.
