This month's edition of The Beautiful Drape is a classic kanjivaram with traditional embellishments that emphasise the dramatic geometry of the drape.

The body features delicate rudraksha motifs in gold zari that appear to float upon the silk as they are woven in the extra warp technique. The retta pettu borders, with bands of designs on either side, feature muthu (dotted lines resembling pearls), benaras twill designs and a row of patterns inspired by jadai nagam, a traditional hair ornament, all in gold zari. Kattu lines form dotted checks on the body and attached blouse fabric of the sari.

The beauty of this kanjivaram lies in the simplicity of its ornamentation, at once classic, subtle and elegant. Available in multiple colour-ways, this kanjivaram features zari with a composition of 25% silver and 0.3% gold.
