Kanakavalli Bride : Swetha

Swetha weds Vickey

Kanakavalli Bride Swetha doesn’t believe in love at first sight, but in love that reveals itself slowly. She first connected with Vickey through work, when he composed music for a few of her projects. But it was only in 2021, when she spent six months in Chennai for her MA in Bharatanatyam, that they truly got to know each other. Swetha was struck by Vickey’s ease and honesty, despite being a well-known musician. The two of them spoke endlessly about music, dance, their processes and life in general. They didn’t rush to define their relationship, and over time it became clear that they shared something steady and intentional; that they were truly compatible. Art brought them together and continues to do so every day.

Swetha says their relationship was built on choice rather than ceremony and the idea of marriage arrived as a sense of clarity. They didn’t need a question or a single dramatic moment. With the blessings of their families, the decision felt natural.

Swetha and Vickey planned their entire wedding in under three weeks, allowing a sense of simplicity to shape the celebration. They chose Dakshina Chitra as their venue – a space that is rich in history – with décor composed of bright and traditional marigold flowers.

Swetha says that during the ceremony, there was a moment of complete stillness that she will never forget. There was a pause in the rituals and standing there, surrounded by family and flowers in the morning light, she felt an overwhelming sense of calm. It wasn’t dramatic or emotional, but in that quiet moment, she felt steady and aligned, knowing she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Kanakavalli as a choice always felt instinctive, says Swetha, so wearing one of our kanjivarams for her wedding was a natural decision. She feels the saris are rooted in tradition, uncompromising in craft and never ornamental for the sake of it. She is deeply connected to heritage textiles and believes Kanakavalli’s pieces resonate with how she understands culture – in a way that is lived, rather than displayed or performed. The highlight of shopping at Kanakavalli, says Swetha, was the clarity that the experience offered. The focus was on the sari itself – its weave, weight and character – without distraction. This allowed her to choose with intention, leaving her feeling truly satisfied.

A big thank you to Swetha for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Vickey a lifetime of love and laughter.
