Kanakavalli's January pick for The Beautiful Drape is a gorgeous kanjivaram with an exquisite depth of detail and colour.

The body of the kanjivaram in hot pink shot with magenta features classic motifs woven entirely in hot pink silk, including rudraksh, vanki, mutthu and neli stripes, and reku or temple motifs above the borders.

The rettu pettu borders in mustard yellow shot with magenta feature fine zari details woven either side with hints and selvedge in royal blue and green. Mangai and thilaga moggu, pattu seeru, benaras weave patterns, and a vertical geometric design known as kattu-pettu adorn the borders. The pallu is embellished with a gold zari seeprekku band formed out of vanki patterns, flanked by the benaras weave, a row of rudraksh motifs, and reku or temple motifs.

The zari in this sari contains 40% of silver and 0.36% of gold.
