Kanakavalli Bride : Snigdha

Snigdha weds Krishna

Kanakavalli Bride Snigdha and Krishna spent eight months speaking on the phone before they first met, as Krishna works with the Merchant Navy and was on board a ship. When he returned, since it was the midst of the pandemic, he drove all the way from Mumbai to Bangalore to meet Snigdha.

It felt surreal to meet after speaking for so long, but there was no awkwardness, Snigdha says, and they connected instantly. A few months after their first meeting, Snigdha and her family drove to Mumbai. As soon as they reached, Krishna picked her up and took her to a quiet candlelight dinner with a view of the city below them.

He then asked her to marry him, and she said yes! The couple had a bright and beautiful wedding with five events & each planned meticulously, with colour palettes and themes.

The wedding ceremony was very traditional, but Snigdha and Krishna had discussed that she would also do the Kashi Yatra & a ritual usually performed only by the groom.

They spoke to their priest and adjusted the mantras to suit a girl, and Krishna's mother sweetly came and asked Snigdha to marry her son! Snigdha says it was a truly special experience to do this with the full support of both families.

The "jillakara-bellam" ceremony, in which the bride and groom place a mixture of cumin and jaggery wrapped in betel leaves on each other's heads as a curtain between them drops was also a memorable moment.

Snigdha came across a gold kanjivaram on Pinterest and felt that it matched her aesthetic. Kanakavalli's Bangalore store arranged for several gold saris to be sent in from other stores, and one of them stood out to Snigdha.

Adorned with intricate animal and bird motifs in a Vanam Singaram scene, the sari shone beautifully in the sun, and Snigdha fell in love with it.

A big thank you to Snigdha for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Krishna a lifetime of love and laughter.
