Kanakavalli Bride : Sindhu

Sindhu weds Athreya

Kanakavalli Bride Sindhu and Athreya first met at Toastmasters, a public speaking organization, in 2016 when he was giving his first speech and she was the speech evaluator. It was a five-minute interaction, but Athreya would later say it was love at first conversation! They then met three years later, becoming best friends before falling in love.

When they had their first date in the US, Athreya proposed to Sindhu on the Golden Gate Bridge, saying: “Sindhu, when I first met you 6 years ago, I was thinking “I hope she likes my speech!” and today, six years later, on one knee, I’m still thinking ‘I hope she likes my speech!’” Even during the most emotional times, Athreya never fails to make Sindhu laugh, and that’s what she loves most about him.
Sindhu and Athreya both love the outdoors, so their wedding was in a space filled with greenery and fountains, enriched with their simple décor.
Inspired by their Kannada Brahmin roots and Sindhu’s training as a Bharatanatyam dancer, they chose lots of traditional elements.
Just after the main thaali ritual, Sindhu and her mum were filled with emotion, but her husband and father – who had been cracking jokes through the ceremony – gave each other big high-fives, a truly heartwarming moment.
Having their family together from different parts of the world was pure joy, says Sindhu and she was filled with gratitude.
Sindhu says that the best part of married life is when they all sit together for dinner or a movie night, she knows with absolute certainty that they belong together – it’s beautiful to see how perfectly he fits into her family, and she into his.
Having followed the brand for a long time, Sindhu always knew her main wedding sari would be from Kanakavalli. At the Bangalore store, she fell in love with an emerald green kanjivaram, but her mother felt the mayil and chakaram motifs within checks were too big for her small frame. Immediately, someone from the Kanakavalli team brought out a very similar sari but with smaller, more intricate motifs – and Sindhu knew it was the one.
A big thank you to Sindhu for being a gorgeous Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Athreya a lifetime of love and laughter.
