Kaavya weds Aditya
Kanakavalli Bride Kaavya used to believe in love at first sight, like in the books, but her husband Aditya has defined a new kind of romance for her – one she can count on and that keeps her safe. They first met in school in Chennai, and their friendship grew when he moved to Singapore where she lives.
Aditya had been trying to convince Kaavya that he didn’t believe in marriage, and she was getting quite upset. But one evening, when it was raining, he suggested they go for a walk without their phones.
On a path along the river that is on their cycling route, while Kaavya was splashing in puddles, Aditya pulled out the ring and asked her to marry him.
The best part about wedding planning for Kaavya was incorporating the various rituals and customs of their roots. She is half Tamilian and half Malayalee, and Aditya has roots in UP, Punjab and Bengal.
Kaavya wanted to honour the meaning behind each culture’s customs, and the coming together of their families.
For the wedding ceremony, the couple walked in together, led by her thalam girls and followed by Aditya’s brothers and groomsmen. They had a short, sweet and meaningful Arya Samaj ceremony, with décor mirroring the colours of the sunset on the beach. As Aditya was tying the mangalsutra, the sun was setting behind them, and the moon was rising before them – a truly magical moment.
Being married has been wonderful, says Kaavya, as they take life on with humour and a level of abandon. She says it feels like living with her best friend.
Kaavya and her mum are both sari obsessed, and her mother has a collection to rival most stores. Kaavya knew exactly what she wanted, and found her sari almost immediately at Kanakavalli.
She said shopping at the Kingsley store felt very special, and the team spent time to show her every piece, draping over 50 saris and ensuring she was 100% sure of her choice. She loved the ritual handing over of the sari, marking the importance of the occasion.
A big thank you to Kaavya for being a gorgeous Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Aditya a lifetime of love and laughter.
