Devi weds Sabari
Kanakavalli Bride Devi’s and Sabari’s families knew each other even before their parents were married! They don’t remember the first time they met, but photographic evidence shows they were at the same birthday parties, weddings and social gatherings as tiny toddlers.
As preteens, they became friends and their relationship started years later in the most organic way. Despite being completely different personalities, they both grew up with the same values, so the transition from being family friends to best friends, and then partners in marriage, was seamless.
Devi always dreamed of a beach wedding, and the process of planning brought the two families closer together.
The wedding was an intimate affair, with only their closest friends and family in attendance. Their wedding venue in Kerala was at the meeting point of the sea (kadal) and the lake (kayal), a poetic metaphor describing the couple and the coming together of their families.
From their ‘first look’ to Devi’s bridal entry with her father, uncles and brothers, to the actual tying of the thaali, every moment of the wedding is so special to the couple, forming memories they will cherish for years to come.
Devi has always loved saris and jewellery and never misses a chance to dress up. As a girl, she discovered a profound love for kanjivaram saris, especially those with classic motifs.
In previous generations, Devi’s family’s muhurtham saris were custom-made by weavers in Kanchipuram, but Devi introduced them to the world of Kanakavalli so they wouldn’t have to go through the trouble.
The wedding dress code for guests was Kerala kasavu, in shades of white, cream and gold, so that Devi would stand out as a bride in shades of red or pink.
Within twenty minutes of arriving at Kingsley, they landed on the perfect choice, and it was love at first sight. She and her family loved how cordial the team at the store was, constantly attentive to their needs. Devi hopes to pass on her wedding sari, which she considers an heirloom piece, to future generations.
A big thank you to Devi for being a beautiful Kanakavalli Bride and sharing the story of her wedding with us. We wish her and Sabari a lifetime of love and laughter.
