Our Pick This Month
BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : July Edition
Kanakavalli's July pick for The Beautiful Drape is an exquisite korvai kanjivaram, intricate in its embellishment and dramatic in its layout. The delightful interplay of colour and zari detail emphasises the inherent geometry of the sari.
The body of the kanjivaram is adorned with muthu kattam or dotted checks that resemble pearls, enclosing floral motifs inspired by thuthiripoo (Indian mallow), a tropical flower. The contrast korvai borders feature temple-inspired gopura moggu, a row of diamond motifs known as diamond pettu, muthu seer (pearl-like dotted lines) and wavy neli stripes inspired by the bridal toe-ring or metti. Within these classic details is a broad band of patterns known as kadhir or grain motifs. The designs on the borders are executed in gold zari, with an alternate colour known as astiri subtly highlighting the palette. The pallu of the sari mirrors the borders, with an additional central band of diamond motifs in zari.
Available in multiple colourways, this kanjivaram features zari with a composition of 0.3% gold and 25% to 26% silver.
