Kanakavalli Bride : Swetha

Mathew proposed to Swetha at the same spot where they’d had their first date.

Telling her it was just a dinner, he took her to a park by the river and there, despite the clouds and the incessant drizzle, he went down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

Swetha thoroughly enjoyed shopping for the wedding, which consisted of five events. Since her husband is Sikh and she is Telugu, they had two wedding ceremonies, as well as several other rituals and celebrations.

They came down to India from Australia for all the wedding shopping and Swetha says they literally shopped from morning to night!

At the jeelakarra bellam ritual, Swetha saw her groom for the first time and she was so overwhelmed that her eyes filled with tears of joy. She says they have a photograph that captures this moment – one they will cherish for life.
Having worn a Kanakavalli sari for her engagement, Swetha knew she wanted her wedding saris to be from our store as well. She wanted to wear something that reflected her connection to her South Indian roots, and was looking for a vermillion kanjivaram as well as a white one.

At the Hyderabad store, the staff handed Swetha her kanjivarams along with a blouse length and bangles that they had offered to the gods for blessings. This moment, she says, was the highlight of her shopping experience.
