Kanakavalli Bride : Lakshmi Sunder

Lakshmi weds Varun

In the Kanakavalli Brides series, we feature beautiful brides who chose Kanakavalli for their special days, sharing the stories of their weddings with you.

January's Bride, Lakshmi, is a dentist and her husband Varun is an engineer with five degrees. But what connects the two of them is music. She is a trained classical Carnatic singer and he plays the flute. Lakshmi says they hit it off the very first time they met and she knew she had found 'the one'. They are the opposite of each other and yet they share the same values, beliefs and roots and this, Lakshmi says, makes for a very interesting partnership. She is excited to spend the rest of her life with Varun and is so grateful that she met him.

Lakshmi planned her wedding meticulously, using a scrapbook and a printer to save every idea and bit of inspiration. This was her favourite part of planning and helped her put together a wedding wish list that she shared with her planners and decorators before the big day. She didn't miss a single detail and managed to put together the wedding of her dreams, even incorporating the ideas of their parents. Coming from traditional Hindu Brahmin families, both Lakshmi and Varun wanted to infuse as much of their backgrounds as possible into their wedding celebrations. They followed all the ceremonies and rituals of a traditional wedding, with several pre-wedding functions.

Lakshmi says that all her friends surprised her with thoughtful little gifts during the course of the wedding celebrations, and this left her feeling emotional, touched and grateful. She and Varun will never forget the blessings, love and joy that their friends and family showered on them, and they will treasure these memories forever.

The bride wore Kanakavalli kanjivarams for all her main wedding events. Her favourite was the gorgeous blue silk she wore for her 'Varapuje' ceremony that her father chose for her. She says this made it all the more special because her father is not usually one to make decisions about saris! Lakshmi and her parents travelled to Chennai to shop at Kanakavalli's Kingsley store and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. "The store spells royalty like no other. The hospitality was impeccable," she says. Lakshmi wanted every single wedding sari to be special and unique, and found just what she wanted at Kanakavalli.

A big thank you to Lakshmi for being a beautiful Kanakavalli bride, and for sharing the story of her wedding with us! We wish her and Varun a lifetime of togetherness.
