Kanakavalli's February pick for The Beautiful Drape is a simple but stunning monotone kanjivaram that shimmers with zari.
Woven in sea green shot with pearl grey, the body of the kanjivaram is embellished with delicate mutthu lines in gold zari. So fine are these stripes that they infuse the soft pastel silk with an iridescent beauty. The borders feature a band of diamond motifs or a kann pettu, with mutthu seeru, rudraksha motifs and thilaga moggu on either side. The pallu is adorned with a broad band of benaras or twill weave patterns, flanked by bands of kann pettu, all in rich zari.
The zari in this sari contains 25% of silver and 0.3% of gold.
