Kanakavalli's March pick for The Beautiful Drape is an exquisite kanjivaram from our design-led Vault collective of heirloom weaves that are exclusive to the brand.
This monotone kanjivaram in dark violet shot with mulberry purple is woven entirely by hand in the adai technique, lending dramatic relief to the embellishments.
The body is dotted with vishwakarma buttas in zari. The borders are embellished with manga moggu in gold, two rows of mutthu seeru and thuthiripoo in red silk, and intricate elephant, yali and parrot motifs amid floral detail in zari, with hints of yellow. On the pallu, rows of salangai moggu flank bands of benaras and thuthiripoo patterns in between exquisitely detailed parrot and horse motifs in zari.
The zari in this sari contains 40% of silver and 0.3% of gold.
