Kanakavalli Kanjivaram Silk Sari 21-040-HS001-07421
Kanakavalli’s pick for The Beautiful Drape for May is a gorgeous kanjivaram from our design-led Vault collective of heirloom saris.
The body of the kanjivaram in a dual shade of purple is embellished with gold checks known as puni-kattam, which do not extend into the pallu. This is achieved through a technique known as killu mundi.
The borders, in emerald green shot with dark purple, are flanked by two rows of salangai or anklet designs, muthu seeru, parakum kuthirai or winged horses and vanki patterns in zari and rust orange silk thread, with hints of mustard yellow. The classic pallu, woven in the adai technique, is adorned with bands of muthu seeru in gold zari, rust orange and mustard yellow.
The zari in this sari contains 40% of silver and 0.3% of gold.
Approximate Length - 5.4 meters + 0.6 to 0.65 meters (attached blouse)
