This festive season, Kanakavalli's pick for The Beautiful Drape is a stunning heirloom kanjivaram from the design-led Vault collective of classic format saris that are exclusive to the brand. The sari features four bold colours - one on the body, two on the borders, and the fourth on the pallu - that define its structure and emphasise the beauty of its design.
The sari's body in copper pink features checks woven in gold tissue. The ganga jamuna korvai borders in mustard yellow and green shot with dark mulberry purple are embellished with classic patterns - salangai moggu (anklet motifs), pearl-like mutthu seeru, thuthiripoo motifs and kann pettu in gold zari, with pattu seeru in contrast thread. The navy blue pallu, interlocked in the pethni technique, is adorned with many of the same elements, with intricate kuthirai or horse motifs as well as peacocks woven within boxes, known as kattu mayil.
The kanjivaram is handwoven on an adai loom, lending the design its fine detail and striking relief.
The zari in this sari contains 36% of silver and 0.4% of gold.
