Kanakavalli Kanjivaram Silk Sari 050-01-86076
This kanjivaram features kasa-kasa kattam, tiny checks resembling poppy seeds woven in tonal hues of deep vermillion and black across the body. These delicate checks—so fine that their beauty is visible only when the sari is draped—require the use of two weft threads in the loom, which are then interlocked at the borders in the meticulous korvai technique. The classic temple korvai borders in a dual shade of green are adorned with rich gold zari woven in the ettu kol technique. This laborious process is achieved on a four-pedal loom, laying the zari upon the lush silk of the base fabric in a twill pattern. The pallu, woven in the same colour as the borders, features a band of gold zari woven in ettu kol, as well as traditional seeprekku patterns. The zari on the borders and pallu adds a delightful shimmer that perfectly complements the dramatic geometry of the sari's layout.
The zari in this sari contains 30% silver and 0.3% gold.
