Kanakavalli Kanjivaram Silk Sari 040-01-105675
Kanakavalli's October pick for The Beautiful Drape is a gorgeous kanjivaram from the design-led Vault collective of heirloom weaves, woven on an adai loom in a laborious technique executed entirely by hand. This pastel orange kanjivaram shot with pearl grey is dotted with intricate deer motifs in gold zari. The borders feature classic vanki patterns, thuthiripoo motifs, muthu seeru and bhugodi triangles in silver and gold zari highlighted with contrast seeru lines in scarlet. The pallu is woven with a row of horse motifs and a row of peacock motifs with pavun coin motifs in between, alongside a twill band and a row of paisleys, all in silver and gold zari.
As a result of the adai technique, the motifs and designs are exquisitely detailed, taking on a striking relief against the sumptuous silk.
The zari in this sari contains 35% silver and 0.4% gold.
