In the limited edition collective of Kasuti On Kanjivaram, Kanakavalli brings together two distinct and ancient crafts: the classic kanjivaram weave and the folk hand embroidery tradition of kasuti. This medley creates an intriguing new language within the bold framework of the drape. Classic elements of the kanjivaram including temple borders and kattam/ vari or checks and stripes, are beautifully complemented by the delicate embroidery; the jewel tones perfectly accented by the vivid silken yarn.
Kasuti, a craft from North Karnataka, comprises four types of hand stitches used to execute intricate motifs drawn from architecture, flora and fauna. Where the fine needlework meets the lush silk in dramatic detail, a striking new design dynamic emerges. Join us to discover the kanjivaram, embroidered, in this unique, one of a kind collective.
