KVLX : Kanjivaram X Gara

KVLX, Kanakavalli’s embellished collaborations, brings together a gamut of crafts married to the beauty of the kanjivaram, adding new perspectives to the queen of silks. This season, Kanakavalli collaborates with the award-winning textile designer Ashdeen Z. Lilaowala to bring you Kanjivaram X Gara, a collection of exquisite kanjivarams embellished with Parsi Gara embroidery.

The intricate figurative expression of Gara hand embroidery is the perfect counterpoint to the stark geometry of the kanjivaram. The two crafts beautifully complement each other, creating an entirely new aesthetic - the structured severity of the kanjivaram softened by the whimsical colours and motifs of Gara embroidery.

This collection encompasses a range of classic Kanakavalli kanjivarams in rich jewel tones, with occasional contrast borders and zari embellishments. The Gara embroidery by Ashdeen takes the form of exquisitely detailed floral motifs, dotted with birds and butterflies, in silver, gold and bronze zari as well as in contrast coloured thread.
