BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : September Edition

Kanakavalli's September pick for The Beautiful Drape is a kanjivaram whose beauty lies in its classic simplicity.
This monotone kanjivaram has kamalam buttas or lotus motifs dotted across the body, lending the silk a delightful shimmer. The borders are adorned with thenthuzhi kann or honeydrop motifs in gold zari. Bordering this band of geometric patterns on either side are fine seeru muthu lines. The pallu of the kanjivaram has a band of diamond kann, also called nadu kann as it is woven in the middle of the pallu. This is flanked by seeru muthu lines, vanki patterns and kalasam moggu, a delicate motif inspired by temple architecture.
The rich colour of the silk is beautifully juxtaposed against the delicacy of its zari detailing. This kanjivaram, available in several beautiful colourways, features zari with a composition of 0.3% gold and 35% silver.
