BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : November Edition
Kanakavalli's pick for The Beautiful Drape this November is a gorgeous kanjivaram whose beauty lies in its simplicity.
This single-tone sari has intricate kili or parrot motifs in zari dotted on the body. The parrot has deep traditional significance, beloved not only for its lively nature but for its spiritual symbolism. The borders of the kanjivaram are embellished with classic patterns in zari - bhugodi triangles, mutthu seeru lines and kamalam or lotus motifs. The pallu also features these elements, as well as neli stripes and peacock motifs in gold zari. The rows of motifs and designs enclose a kann petti band taking the form of diamond shapes.
The fine detail of the sari's ornamentation adds a delightful sparkle to the sumptuous silk of this kanjivaram, available in a range of colour ways. The zari on this drape has a composition of 0.3% gold and 25% silver.
