BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : January Edition
Kanakavalli's January pick for The Beautiful Drape is a gorgeous kanjivaram that celebrates colour and detail. Woven with self-jacquard patterns in silk thread, the sari has an exquisite depth and complex beauty.
The body of the kanjivaram features classic motifs woven entirely in silk, including rudraksh, vanki, mutthu and neli stripes, and reku or temple motifs above the borders.
The rettu pettu borders feature fine zari details woven either side. Mangai and thilaga moggu, pattu seeru, benaras weave patterns, and a vertical geometric design known as kattu-pettu adorn the borders. The pallu is embellished with a gold zari seeprekku band formed out of vanki patterns, flanked by the benaras weave, a row of rudraksh motifs, and reku or temple motifs.
The kanjivaram's beauty lies in the subtle elegance of its colour-play and the richness of its ornamentation. Available in several beautiful colour-ways, this sari has zari with a composition of 40% silver and 0.36% gold.
