BEAUTIFUL DRAPE : January Edition
Kanakavalli's January pick for The Beautiful Drape is a stunning kanjivaram from the Vault collective of classic format weaves that are exclusive to the brand. The beauty of the sari lies in its unusual juxtaposition of colour and motif, at once subtle and celebratory.
The kanjivaram's body features three colours woven as stripes, with gold zari rudraksh or thuthiripoo motifs woven on one of the colour bands to enhance the geometry. The borders feature mayil kann patterns woven in silken yarn, embellished with selection of classic zari details - seeru and muthu seeru lines, salangai or anklet patterns, rudraksh motifs and vanki patterns. The pallu has a central band of zari woven in the laborious ettu kol technique, a richly detailed twill pattern. This is flanked by rudraksh, mayil (peacock) and yanai (elephants) motifs in gold.
This kanjivaram is a playful take on the classic format, with the thoughtful use of colour emphasising its dramatic beauty and tying all the design elements together. Available in several colour ways and two design variants, this month's edition of The Beautiful Drape features zari with a composition of 35% silver and 0.4% gold.
