As we step into a season of festivities, Kanakavalli's pick for December's Beautiful Drape is a stunning kanjivaram that celebrates colour and weave. The sari follows a muppagamlayout, in which its width is divided into three equal parts. Theganga jamuna borders are woven in two different hues, one of which continues into the pallu. This structural design lends itself beautifully to interesting colourplay. Veldhari kattams enclose mayil(peacock) and chakaram motifs in zari on the body of the sari. The rettu pettu borders feature delicate zari details woven in two bands on either side of each border. The embellishments include paisleys, peacocks, benaras and vanki designs, as well as salangai or anklet patterns.
The pallu mirrors the colour of one of the borders, and features the same ornamentation as the borders, with a central band reflecting the design of the body.
Available in multiple gorgeous colourways, this sari has zari with a composition of 0.3% gold and 25% silver.
